The mud pond water most rural Zambians drink is far from being potable. Due to the rugged and rock-infested terrain of Simwatachela Chiefdom, as well as the neighboring chiefdoms SSAAP continues to serve (Mukini and Siapatunyana), water wells cannot be hand-dug but must be machine-drill dug via drill rig, installing casement pipes, pump, pump stems, and hand-pumping mechanisms to extract water 60-75 meters below the ground. Each machine-drilled well ranges in price from $5,500-$7,000 (USD), and SSAAP’s ongoing loyal partner, Denver Rotary’s World Community Service Club, shares in a portion of the well cost.
