Zambia Seed Program ($3.00 per seed packet)

Women—as opposed to men—play the most significant role in agricultural projects, specifically small community gardens. Men in rural communities tend to control the families and play the “breadwinner” role, in which behind-the-scenes the women are pulling the majority of the workload in the fields, the gardens, and domestically. Through feeding, clothing, cooking for and bathing the children, the women continue to be the prime workers and laborers in the community, multi-tasking to keep their families alive.

Through in-kind donations of seed packages, or purchase of seeds ($3.00/seed packet in Zambia), women are given the opportunity to cultivate gardens, feed their children, use income generated  to send children to school, or to sell excess produce. Seed gardens are one of the best gifts a Zambian woman can receive.
